Snowin’, blowin’ and movin’

Apologies for the radio silence this week. The weather has been crazy here and power was off over the weekend, during which, unfortunately, I was also trying to move into a new house (moving during an ice storm: not recommended, by the way). Then I got into a fight with some of our downed tree branches and lost…don’t ask. Anyway, I do have a post on tap for later today and hopefully things will be back to some semblance of normal next week.

  1. I saw the polio article; I want to do a bigger post on that, but I’m waiting until I can get around to finishing Needham’s book on disease eradication. Hadn’t seen the VA news, though…

  2. Having frequently engaged tree branches and had some memorable defeats, my sympathies. And for having to move in lousy weather; ugh.

  3. Yes, I’m here in Virginia and have been following this. I’m genuinely and pleasantly surprised that this made it through our very reactionary House of Delegates. We have a number of folks, one Bob Marshall in particular with attacks on contraception and Plan B, who have made sexual politics their bread-and-butter for winning elections. I think there was a fairly concious decision to avoid making it a political issue, so the debate/discussion was kept quiet. Funny how the social reactionaries have ‘come to Jesus’ moments for science when it really gets down to brass tacks.
